Spiritual Inventory

Well, I came up with some gumption to talk to John about our spiritual lives.  It had seemed that things that were most important were falling by the wayside.  Well, we made some spiritual goals.  Together we want to pray day and night, read our scriptures once a day, have family home evening on Monday nights, and get to the temple.  I made some personal goals.  I want to read my scriptures near the first thing in the morning and say my prayers morning and night.  These goals are so important.  Because they bring other inspirations into our lives.

Last night we had our family home evening and I was inspired by President Hinckley’s First Presidency Message in the last Ensign.  He spoke of Christ and His life.  The quote that really hit me the most was,

“In sunshine and in shadow we look to Him, and He is there to assure and smile upon us.”

What a great truth.  I have been struggling to find my path lately and this truth brought me back to what is most important, Jesus Christ.  And I am grateful for this knowledge.

“…regardless of what the future holds, there stands the Redeemer of the world, the Son of God, certain and sure as the anchor of our immortal lives.  He is the rock of our salvation, our strength, our comfort, the very focus of our faith.”

Jody Hensen

Today I am grateful for Coach Jody Hensen.  She called me today and I missed it.  I called her right back and we talked for a bit.  :)   I listened to her message later and it said, I am just calling to see what is going on!!  Sweet.  I love it.  We also texted back and texted back and forth the other day.

Let me give some background.  :)   I went to Alaska to play basketball and she was my coach my senior year!  I had a different coach each year I played and two of them I really respected and pretty much revered.  She was one.  She was hard.  She worked us hard and expected the best out of us.  While I played for her, I was an on court leader.  I was not usually the high scorer and didn’t play the most minutes, but I was a difference maker.  I had energy.  I played so hard and I played for my coaches.  I would get so upset when we lost, because I knew how much time and effort our coaches had put in.

So, after I finished playing, she coached for two more seasons.  I was there for one.  I played Volleyball and threw the shot put for the track team, so I was around.  I sat on the bench for games and I practiced while I could.  I loved doing anything I could to help out.  I helped in recruiting.  I would tell the recruits how great Coach Hensen is and how much I enjoyed playing for her.

After I moved, I kept in touch through emails.  I even went up to AK for the last home games.  I was so excited to just be back with her and the other coaches/players.

Over the years, we have become friends and I love it.  I get so excited whenever I hear from her.  I was so afraid of her at points in my life.  And still some of that seeps through sometimes, but it is getting better. :)   I am just so grateful for her and her inspiration and friendship!!  :)

I have just moved into my new house and that is why there has not been any posts.  I have been busy.  But hopefully things will settle down and I can be grateful again.  Wait. . .
