1 Nephi Chapter 3

Oh this chapter is full of good stuff.  I have always liked v. 5 that says Nephi’s brothers murmured against the things their father had asked them to do and he replies, “I have not required it of them, but it is a commandment of the Lord.”  What a great statement.  Sometimes as children we get upset with our parents about things they are “making” us do, when really they are just following the commandment from the Lord to teach their children and rear them in love and righteousness.

Then, two verses later in v. 7 is the famously often quoted, “I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.”  What power that scripture has in my everyday life.  I mean when something is commanded of me, I know that I will have the way of accomplishing it!!  It gives me such confidence and strength.  And not in myself, but in my God and then in myself through God.

We also see in this chapter that Laman and Lemuel are murmuring again and Nephi has faith that the Lord will deliver Laban into their hands.  The best part is, he has no idea how and they have already failed twice.  That is great faith.  When I read these chapters about Nephi and his brothers, I am always inspired by Nephi’s faith.  Reading that he always turns to the Lord and always believes in the Lord helps me to do the same.  Liken the scriptures to yourself!

That is all for today.  It has been great writing on this blog and reading along with the lessons.  Please do comment if you have any impression to.
